Christmas is just around the corner and everyone’s excited about spending time with family and friends. At Bock’s Steam Star, we love the holidays. But we know it’s a tough time to keep your home looking pristine. So as our present to you, here are some ways to keep your carpet cleaner longer.
We all love the smell of a fresh Christmas tree but they can be messy. We’ve taken lots of calls to remove tree sap from carpet after the holidays. What’s the solution? Use a tree skirt. This will help to protect your carpet from falling sap.
You need to be careful when watering a live tree and make sure the water stays in the stand. Water that spills onto a vibrantly colored skirt can cause intense carpet stains once the tree is taken down. One way to prevent this is to place absorbent, light colored fabric under the skirt so the dye transfers there instead of your carpet. Also, if you choose to use plastic be careful. Mold can grow under there.
Think ahead when you plan your holiday menu so you can avoid as many food and drink spills as possible. If you’re serving red wine, use seamless glasses to avoid them tipping over. Meatballs and Little Smokies are great appetizers, but they can leave a big holiday mess if they hit your floors. Find some finger foods that are tasty and a little less messy.
With so many people in and out of your home during the holidays, you’re going to have increased foot traffic. Vacuum your carpet frequently during the holidays and spot treat any stains quickly. If the weather turns sloppy, be sure to have your guests take off their shoes. If you’re having an intimate gathering, why not ask them to bring their slippers? It is Christmas after all.
We know that you can’t prevent all holiday carpet disasters and that’s where we can step in and help. If you happen to have a skirt stain or wine glass tip over, give us a call. We’ll come out and get your carpet clean in January.
