This Mother’s Day is a little bittersweet for us at Bock’s Steam Star, as last year my mother, Rita, passed away. So we got to thinking. Instead of mourning her loss this Mother’s Day, why not celebrate her memory? And, why not help you celebrate your mother as well.
I learned a lot of lessons from my mom. In our home, there was not a dish left unwashed. It was neat as a pin (could be where I got my love of cleaning). I like to joke that my mom was a little OCD when it came to cleaning especially on Saturdays.
My mother had a strong work ethic. She’d get up early in the morning, have breakfast on the table for all four of us kids and our lunches made. She’d keep busy all day and start it again the next. She taught me about hard work.
When I decided to start Bock’s Steam Star, my mom was kind enough to offer me my childhood room so I could get the business off the ground. We installed a phone line and in the early years, my mom answered the phone from the kitchen table, setting appointments and helping out with customer service. In the beginning, she wouldn’t let me pay her, but eventually asked for $40 so she’d have a little fun money.
My mom was the center of the social universe for our family. She planned all the parties and really enjoyed people and life in general. She was also a woman of faith.
