What does Protector REALLY Do?
When your carpet was new it probably had a fluorochemical “Scotchgard” type coating applied at the mill. Upholstery fabrics rarely come with any coating. This treatment is beneficial and prevents spills, oils and dry soils from bonding to the fibers.
2 Ways Factory Protector is Removed from Carpet:
- Regular use. Over a period of six months to two years, depending on traffic, a significant amount of protector is removed from high use areas & protector needs to be re-applied.
- High Alkaline cleaner. Some un-educated cleaners use harsh chemicals that strip out the protector. If you notice your carpet getting dirtier after cleaning, this is likely the reason.
4 Reasons to get Fabric Protector Re-applied After Cleaning:
- Reduces permanent stains. Unprotected carpets, upholstery and rugs will easily absorb spills, oils & dry soils even if cleaned up immediately.
- Helps save traffic areas from being destroyed. Traffic area soil cuts your carpet like a knife and causes ugly traffic lines. Protector makes vacuuming all materials more efficient.
- Makes spots easier to remove for you and for the next time it is cleaned.
- Helps avoid costly service calls. For minor spots, you are more likely to be able to remove a stain yourself if the protection is still there.
*The result of having protector applied properly is having better longer lasting textiles!
*One carpet swatch was treated with Protector and the other swatch was untreated. Both were dipped in Kool-AidTM and then rinsed under a faucet. The one treated with Protector rinsed clean.
